About
MCEE
In
an effort to impact the level of economic literacy of Mississippi's
citizenry, especially our young people, a group of business leaders
recently instituted the Mississippi Council on Economic Education
(MCEE) as an affiliate of the 60-year-old National Council on Economic
Education (NCEE), which has such state affiliates in almost every
state. The vision of the
Mississippi Council on Economic Education is of students leaving school
prepared for their economic roles as workers, consumers, citizens,
savers, investors and lifelong decision makers. To date, more
than 3,100 teachers have participated in the training programs provided
by the Council. Those teachers are impacting 310,000
students.
Specifically,
the MCEE is about closing the gap between what young people need to
know about economics and what they are being taught in the
classroom. The MCEE's mission is to insure
that the K-12 schools and teachers in Mississippi provide quality
instruction in economics and personal finance to our young people, that
is academically sound and non-partisan.
