Mississippi Economic
Challenge
T uesday, March
25, 2008
Jackson, MS
What is it?
The Mississippi
Economics Challenge, sponsored by the
Mississippi Council on Economic Education and
made possible through funding by the National
Council on Economic Education and the Goldman
Sachs Foundation is a state competition for high
school students designed to increase their
understanding of and interest in economics and
finance. Students compete in teams for a chance
to win prizes and a trip to New York City to
compete in the national finals.
Who is it for?
High school
students from around the state have the
opportunity to compete in state, regional, and
national level competitions.
How does it work?
Teams
consisting of four high school students
will convene in Jackson, MS on Tuesday,
March
25,
2008
for the State
Competition. Schools may enter multiple teams.
There are two divisions in which teams
compete: David Ricardo
Division (Introductory) and the Adam Smith
Division (Advanced). There
is no entry fee for the teams.
The competition
is set up with the first three rounds (Macro,
Micro and International) consisting of
multiple-choice, paper-pencil tests.
The student with the top individual score
of Round I and Round II in each division will be
named “Economics Student of the Year.”
Following Round III, the top two teams in
each division compete in Round IV, a
fast-answer, quiz-bowl type challenge.
For this round, previous scores are
erased and the winner takes all, including an
all-expense paid trip to the regional
competition in Minneapolis in April 2007.
