The Mississippi Council on Economic Education (MCEE) is a non-profit, non-partisan, educational organization founded to promote economic literacy in Mississippi.  The MCEE's mission is to meet the critical need of insuring that the K-12 schools and teachers in Mississippi provide quality instruction in economics and personal finance to our young people, that is academically sound and non-partisan.  The MCEE provides resources and training to public and private K-12 teachers in Mississippi, empowering educators to teach their students how economics relates to their lives as a worker, citizen and consumer.

~Data from the Mississippi State University Center on Economic Education and Financial Literacy shows that high school students who participate in the Stock Market Game score 8 points higher on the Test of Economic Literacy!

~For every teacher that is trained, that teacher reaches 100 students the first year and another 100 the next year, and so on…..

SMITH NAMED TO NATIONAL COUNCIL ON ECONOMIC EDUCATION BOARD

JACKSON, Miss.,April 23, 2008 – Dr. Pamela P. Smith , President of the Mississippi Council on Economic Education (MCEE), has been appointed to a three-year term on the board of the National Council on Economic Education (NCEE).

 

LAMAR COUNTY SCHOOLS FIRST IN STATE FOR ECONOMIC EDUCATION

HATTIESBURG, Miss., April 24, 2008 – Lamar County Schools has become the first school district in the state and one of only a few in the country to train almost all of its 600 kindergarten through 12th grade teachers in economics and personal finance, one year after launching an initiative to integrate economics into the curriculum across all grade levels.

 

METRO TEACHERS GO TO RECESS AT PARKWAY PROPERTIES

JACKSON, Miss., April 17, 2008 – Going to recess has a new meaning for economics teachers participating in an innovative business/education partnership between the Mississippi Council on Economic Education (MCEE) and Parkway Properties.  RECESS (Real Estate Concepts and Economics Summit) is a 16-week seminar series that gives educators a window into the real estate industry and access to real world applications they can share with students in their classrooms.

 

MADISON CENTRAL HIGH STUDENTS WIN THE MISSISSIPPI STATE ECONOMICS CHALLENGE

JACKSON, MISS  MARCH 26, 2008-

The competition was the fiercest and biggest yet yesterday as Mississippi students put their  knowledge of economics to the test.   The spirited competition in Jackson Tuesday was fun and a little nerve-wracking, just like the March Madness of college hoops. The 2008 National Economics Challenge matched fifteen schools, with two student-teams, both from Madison Central High, emerging as the "Mississippi State Division Winners.”
