METRO TEACHERS GO TO RECESS AT PARKWAY PROPERTIES

JACKSON, Miss., April 17, 2008 – Going to recess has a new meaning for economics teachers participating in an innovative business/education partnership between the Mississippi Council on Economic Education (MCEE) and Parkway Properties.  RECESS (Real Estate Concepts and Economics Summit) is a 16-week seminar series that gives educators a window into the real estate industry and access to real world applications they can share with students in their classrooms.

 

MADISON CENTRAL HIGH STUDENTS WIN THE MISSISSIPPI STATE ECONOMICS CHALLENGE

JACKSON, MISS  MARCH 26, 2008- The competition was the fiercest and biggest yet yesterday as Mississippi students put their  knowledge of economics to the test. The spirited competition in Jackson Tuesday was fun and a little nerve-wracking, just like the March Madness of college hoops. The 2008 National Economics Challenge matched fifteen schools, with two student-teams, both from Madison Central High, emerging as the "Mississippi State Division Winners.”

 

MERRILL LYNCH ONCE AGAIN SUPPORTING STUDENT’S ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT

JACKSON, MS, December 5, 2007— Merrill Lynch announced today that it will once again support Mississippi’s efforts to make the state more competitive in the knowledge-based economy through a grant to support programming provided by the Mississippi Council on Economic Education (MCEE).  The Merrill Lynch grant will support the Mississippi Stock Market Game (SMG) and the Merrill Lynch Promising Young Entrepreneur Awards. 

 

STATE SUPERINTENDENT CITES LAMAR COUNTY SCHOOLS AS MODEL FOR ECONOMIC & FINANCIAL EDUCATION

November 13, 2007 – JACKSON, MISS –Teachers are going back to school in order to be ready to implement new graduation requirements concerning economics and the Lamar County school system was recently cited for their teachers’ success.

JACKSON, MISS--November 7, 2007—Today, Pamela Carrubba, a gifted studies teacher at Bay Waveland Middle School was named the 2007 U.S. Senator Thad Cochran Economics Teacher of the Year. 

 

FOURTH ANNUAL FORUM ON AMERICAN ENTERPRISE HONORING U.S. SENATOR THAD COCHRAN SCHEDULED

JACKSON , MS    November 2, 2007—Our state’s teachers are gaining new skills as good old-fashioned economics is coming back to the classroom thanks to the Mississippi Council on Economic Education (MCEE).

 

COMMUNITY/JUNIOR COLLEGES ARE LEAD SPONSORS FOR COCHRAN FORUM

JACKSON, MISS September 11, 2007—The Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) unanimously approved a $10,000 grant to the Mississippi Council on Economic Education (MCEE) and are designated as lead education sponsors for the 2007 U.S. Senator Thad Cochran Forum on American Enterprise. 

 

FOURTH ANNUAL FORUM ON AMERICAN ENTERPRISE HONORING U.S. SENATOR THAD COCHRAN SCHEDULED

September 11, 2007--Jackson, Miss.  One of Mississippi's true champions of the free enterprise system, U.S. Senator Thad Cochran, will be honored at the Forum on American Enterprise hosted by the Mississippi Council on Economic Education (MCEE). 

 

FINANCIAL LITERACY ACHIEVED THROUGH WELL-TRAINED TEACHERS! 

August 30, 2007--JACKSON, MISS.  Mississippi students score 48 percent before their teachers teach them financial literacy skills and score 80 percent after the unit on financial education.  Financial literacy is learned and Mississippi teachers are proving that they can teach it through a program provided by the Mississippi Council on Economic Education (MCEE).

 

APPLICATIONS ARE BEING ACCEPTED FOR TOP ECONOMICS PROGRAM

July 23, 2007, JACKSON, MISS—Applications are now being accepted for the fall Master Teachers of Economics (MTE) program at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM).

 

MISSISSIPPI TO BE A NATIONAL MODEL IN K-12 ECONOMICS TRAINING

JACKSON , Miss. , June 13, 2007— Mississippi will be the first state in the nation to train a majority of its Kindergarten through 12th grade social studies teachers in Virtual Economics®, a CD-ROM based curriculum developed by the National Council on Economic Education.
