Stock Market Game

The Mississippi Stock Market Game (SMG) is a simulation of a real market, designed to involve students in the world of finance and investing as a means of helping them learn about how a market economy works.

Student teams will invest a hypothetical $100,000 in stocks, bonds and mutual funds and compete for the best portfolio performance. There are three separate trading sessions each year; a summer camp, a Fall session and one in the Spring.

The program is available to all students throughout the state of Mississippi in grades 4 through 12. The community based program focuses on student in out of school settings, i.e. after school program, summer camp, or a church based program.  Students learn to develop team strategies, make decisions, and become informed about investment and economic terms. They also learn to see the connection between world events and their investments.

For TANF recipients, the program supports economic self-sufficiency by strengthening financial capability, increasing exposure to wealth-building strategies, and developing workforce-ready skills that empower students to make informed financial decisions and pursue upward mobility.
